After wokes across social media began to scream about supposed ‘police brutality” and ‘racism’ as a video emerged of a cop punching a black woman in the face, the NYPD has defended the move.
The video, which was taken on a cell phone by a bystander, went viral as anti-police liberals attempted to suggest it was an example of police brutality against black people.
In the footage, a group of cops in Harlem can be seen surrounding Elvin James, 22, who was being arrested for drugs and gun charges as well as for attempted murder – although this last charge was later dropped.
A young black woman approaches from behind, grabs at, and continually slaps Detective Kendo Kinsey in the head and face. Kinsey turns and punches the woman in the face and she falls to the floor.
The man shooting the video can be heard saying, “why you do that? She’s just a little girl”.
The woman, who was later identified as Tamani Crum, 19, unbelievably tried to press charges against the NYPD. The family’s lawyer issued this statement in the days following the incident:
“I’m here with the mother of Miss Crum. She’s obviously very shaken and devastated by the… by the assault which took place yesterday against her daughter,” he said.

“The officer involved in this case was approximately three times her body weight and size. This was unnecessary”.
Surely what was ‘unnecessary’ was for Crum to violently assault cops who were trying to do their job? Fortunately, although the NYPD initially opened an investigation, it is standing by Kendo, as is New York’s liberal mayor, Eric Adams – which will undoubtedly enrage the wokes who were chomping at the bit for another witch hunt.
NYPD unions have remarked that the video shows how brazenly members of the public now assault police officers and said that Crum should not have attempted to interfere in the arrest.
Ironically after attempting to play the incident to her own ends, Crum has been charged with obstruction and was released from custody on Wednesday night. Her boyfriend, James, is still behind bars on a $300,000 bond.
She will appear in court on October 11.
In statements last night, the Detective Endowment Association president Paul DiGiacomo blamed liberal politics and anti-police ideology which has been pushed by organizations like BLM for the rise in disrespect and violence against the police:
“Criminals in NY have grown accustomed to there being no consequences for their dangerous, illegal actions – but when you assault a New York City Detective in order to interfere with an arrest of a man armed with a gun there are repercussions.
“We urge politicians to open their eyes and see the public safety disaster they’ve created.”
In response to civil rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton’s comments that Crum was the victim of a violent police force, DiGiacomo said the claims were “insane”. He added:
“Al Sharpton should be worried about the thousands of actual crime victims in this city and not the limelight and lining of his pocket.”
