According to Ryan Saavedra of the Daily Wire, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a Republican congressman from Louisiana, has been nominated Speaker of the House by House Republicans on Wednesday, despite his competition, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, receiving the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. This makes you wonder if, perhaps, the influence of Trump is beginning to wane among the GOP? While Trump has helped a large number of Republicans win important elections, some of have lost their races despite having his backing.
The vote, according to Saavedra, was 113 for Scalise and only 99 for Jordan.

The vote was held during a closed-door meeting where no cell phones were allowed.
“We need to make sure we’re sending a message to people all throughout the world that the House is open and doing the people’s business,” Scalise went on to say after the vote was taken.
The Louisiana Republican stated there was “a lot of important work to do on behalf of people who are struggling not only here in America, but who are concerned all around the world.”
“We’re going to provide that vision,” he added. “We have a lot of work to do, obviously.”

In order to officially become the next Speaker, Scalise needs to receive 217 votes, the threshold for a simple majority if all members are present. A few Republicans are wanting to put a hold on the process until they are sure they have the 217 votes to get Scalise put in the Speaker position from their own party. This is probably a smart move, especially given the stunning amount of in-fighting happening among conservatives in Congress at the moment.
Currently, Republicans have a very slim lead over Democrats in the House, 221-212.
“I think it is foolish to rush this to the floor unless you have 217 votes,” Rep. Mike Lawler, a New York Republican, went on to say. “It’ll be interesting.”
No doubt a lot of folks will be disappointed that Jordan will not likely become the next Speaker, but honestly, he’s doing a fantastic job right where he’s at. Jordan is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, which is currently pursuing an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden for his possible involvement in an influence peddling scheme involving various members of his family.
Someone needs to be leading the charge to expose the truth about the corruption our president has potentially been involved with, especially as we head into an election year in 2024. The American people deserve to know if those they elected into positions of leadership are abusing the power they have been entrusted with. Unfortunately, the mainstream media, which is in the pocket of the Democratic Party, is not doing its job to help hold elected officials accountable, so it seems conservative news outlets and Republicans like Jordan in Congress are the only hope we have of seeing the two-tiered system of justice set up by the deep state dismantled.
Regardless of who ends up the Speaker of the House, let’s pray they are a person of integrity who holds to true conservative principles with actions and not just words. Words are cheap, after all.
