The daughter of former President George W. Bush, Barbara Pierce Bush, hit the campaign trial this past weekend in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania. However, she wasn’t out supporting former President Donald Trump. She was stumping for Vice President Kamala Harris. If you thought the Republican establishment was officially dead and buried — I mean that figuratively people — you were wrong. It’s still kicking. Might be on life support, but there’s breath in those lungs.
Barbara provided PEOPLE magazine with a statement to confirm she was indeed working on behalf of the Harris campaign in the all-important swing state. What a travesty this is.
“It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend,” Barbara, 42, said in her statement to PEOPLE on Tuesday. “I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”

The former president’s daughter has previously advocated for abortion and reproductive rights, speaking at a rally for Planned Parenthood in 2017, as Breitbart News reported. Before that in 2010, she told PEOPLE she did not identify with either party. Barbara Pierce Bush joins other high-profile members of the Republican establishment who have come out in opposition to former President Donald Trump and support of Harris, USA Today notes. These include George Bush’s vice president, Dick Cheney. His endorsement came shortly after his daughter and former Wyoming Congresswoman, Liz Cheney, announced she would be voting blue in this year’s presidential election.
You have to wonder how Barbara’s father, our former president, feels about his daughter going to bat for a Democrat. Then again, the Bush family isn’t shy about their distaste for former President Donald Trump. And he’s not been too quiet about his for them either. At the same time, if my child basically abandoned all of the values and principles I sought to instill in them during their formative years, I’d have to wonder where I went wrong and how I failed.
Legacy is something very near and dear to the heart of a father. Is this really the kind of legacy Bush wanted to create for his family? Surely not. Even establishment politicians hold some values, right? More than anything, rejecting the values a father taught to a child is a rejection of the father himself. And if that isn’t something to mourn, what is?
At the end of the day, children are a reflection of their parents. If Barbara is willing to work with a Democrat who has plans to destroy the country, well, that speaks volumes about her dad too.
