Fox News host Greg Gutfeld is absolutely destroying late-night liberal talk show hosts in the ratings department and that is a big win for conservatives in the culture wars. Gutfeld, host of “Gutfeld!” was featured in a Variety cover story released on Wednesday.
The fact that Gutfeld, an unapologetic right-winger managed to land in this publication is amazing. What’s more, it wasn’t a hit piece. In fact, it was quite fair. Gutfeld is opening doors for conservatives in the entertainment world.
His massive ratings are evidence that conservatives can indeed score big victories in the culture wars and is proof that Americans are actually in the mood for comedy and political commentary from fresh voices.
Information gleaned from the latest Nielsen ratings reveals that Gutfeld’s show is the only one on television earning more than 3 million viewers nightly. His rivals, which includes Jimmy Fallon’s “The Tonight Show,” and Stephen Colbert’s “The Late Show,” do not typically draw in 2 million viewers.
And the real salt in the wound for the liberal late-night hacks is that Gutfeld is pulling in a lot of Democrats and independents, far more than the competition. He’s currently sitting in the top spot for adults 18-49 and 25-54, two unusual demographics for Fox News.
“The chord Greg strikes most vividly is people are tired of taking themselves so seriously. They’re tired of being preached to. They want to make fun of things again like we always did,” Dr. Drew Pinsky, who is a frequent “Gutfeld!” guest, said in an interview with Variety. “So much of what goes on in late night is sort of Johnny Carson-esque. It’s old. It’s tired. And they have an army of writers, which he does not. He has a few, but it’s mostly him.”
“It’s true. The likes of Fallon and Colbert do not even come close to the kind of edgy, free-wheeling, wise-cracking humor laced throughout Gutfeld’s show. Their monologues and interviews feel overly scripted, glossed over with fake sincerity and corporate PR niceness. They are tepid and room temperature. They lack any bite,” The Daily Caller said.

“Gutfeld summed it up perfectly for Variety, arguing that mainstream corporate broadcast hosts, such as Jimmy Fallon, harbor a deep desire to remain within the circle of liberal elites — even at the expense of their comedy. Fallon and others crave acceptance from their fellow travelers, more than actually being funny,” the article continued.

“I think that Fallon was a victim of status preservation. I think when I see them all in agreement — not to make jokes about sacred subjects — out of, again, status preservation, [it’s because] they know that they will be cast aside if they do that,” Gutfeld went on to tell the outlet. “I’m already cast aside. I’m free.”
He added, “I think that when you’re in that group — the late-night comedy or humorous world — they start putting their professional status and their personal status in front of what could be really funny and what could be really true. They had four years of an incapacitated president, and they didn’t say shit. And instead, they unravel over posts by Trump, and it’s like, you could do both.”
Trump’s victory in November was a huge sign that things are shifting back to the right in this country. The landslide win was proof that we’re all fed up with wokeness and liberal political policies. We want our country back and that includes the values and principles it stands for.
Culture is ready to return to what makes America great. Gutfeld shows that theory is true.
