Country superstar Carrie Underwood, who rose to fame thanks to “American Idol,” is scheduled to perform “America the Beautiful” at President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025. You just know all those anti-MAGA music lovers out there are trying to prepare campaigns to “cancel” her, which is pointless and has essentially no impact on someone of her stature within the entertainment community.
Political reporter Matthew Foldi revealed she would be participating in the event by posting a photo on X of the program for the inauguration. Underwood’s performance was also confirmed by the president-elect’s transition team on Monday.
Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful” with The Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club prior to Trump’s swearing in, according to the screenshot of the program. Other musical participants will include operatic tenor Christopher D. Macchio, who will perform the National Anthem along with other musical selections. Macchio has emerged as a Trump favorite in the past year, performing “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot during campaign rallies.
The U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club is also set to perform “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” while the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Combine Choirs will also perform various musical selections.
Carrie Underwood shot to fame at the American Idol winner back in 2005 and has subsequently skyrocketed to become one of the top selling artists of all time. The multiple Grammy Award winner is among the growing number of country music crossover stars who have helped push the genre into the mainstream in recent years.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood went on to say in a statement obtained by Fox News. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
Lee Greenwood, another of Trump’s favorite artists, will be performing at the event.
Underwood is absolutely correct that it’s time for this nation to come together and unite as the divide has gotten far too wide and deep, leading folks to hate one another and wish each other harm, simply because of different political beliefs. This has to stop if we want our nation to survive. We don’t have to agree on everything, but there should be shared common human experience and basic principles we hold in common.
