Police have taken actor Akili McDowell, star of “David Makes Man,” into custody on charges of murder and theft. McDowell was officially arrested by law enforcement on Aug. 1. He’s only 21-years-old. Imagine being an actor in major projects, making your dreams come true, only to flush it all down the drain by harming someone and taking their stuff. I mean, those two principles alone are all that’s required, at a very stripped down base level, to run a civilized society. Don’t hurt people and don’t take their stuff.
God bless Matt Kibbe for that pearl of wisdom.
According to a report published by The Daily Caller, arrest records found online reveal that the young McDowell was recently booked into the Harris County Jail where his bond for release was set at $400,000. Cops were called to respond to an incident that happened on July 20 at the parking lot of an apartment complex located close to Wallisville and Uvalde in East Harris County, Texas. Man, there certainly seems to be a whole lot of bad stuff that happens in Uvalde. Scratching that off the list of places I’d like to live. Well, to be honest, it was never on the list to begin with, but you get the point.
A statement that was put out by Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez on Aug. 3 on Facebook said that deputies discovered a man in the parking lot, likely in his 20s, with gunshot wounds. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene. The local police department then revealed that a suspect or potentially multiple suspects ran from the scene. Later on, they issued an arrest update which said that homicide detectives had arrested and charged 21-year-old Akili McDowell with the shooting and death of Cesar Peralta. He was then booked into the Harris County Jail.
It’s unclear how McDowell was identified as the suspect. It is not known if the actor and Peralta were known to one another. It currently remains unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf. There was no further information provided that would shed light on what may have led to this tragedy. Police are seeking witnesses or anyone with more information that may be able to assist them in piecing together the details of this case.
Police then stated that the investigation is still currently ongoing and encouraged anyone who might have any information related to the case to call their Homicide Unit at the following number 713-274-9100.
As of this writing, McDowell has two court dates on the calendar. The first is scheduled for Aug. 5, which was this past Monday. The other is set for Oct. 9.
