Actor and legendary funny man, Jim Carrey, who has retired from the industry on two occasions but just couldn’t get enough of that Hollywood money and returned to the business, revealed that the reason he agreed to reprise his role as the villain Dr. Robotnik in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” is because, “I need the money, frankly.” Cash is an addiction for some, folks. I’m sure he has plenty of money just lying around. He also could simply be joking as the guy is always wise cracking.
To be fair, however, he’s actually great as Robotnik from the popular video game franchise. He really hams up his performance and legitimately seems to have fun with it, which is refreshing to see.
During an interview with the Associated Press, the 62-year-old semi-retired actor said,“I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly. Yeah.”
Pretty sure the guy is just cracking a joke, which shows he’s mentally in a better place than he’s probably been in a very, very long time.
Check out the details from The Daily Wire:
The actor had previously said he didn’t want to continue working in Hollywood unless a perfect project came along. “I’m being fairly serious,” Carrey told Access Hollywood in 2022 while promoting “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” He continued, “It depends. If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink, that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road. But I’m taking a break.”
Carrey also said he “really” likes his “quiet life” and painting. “I feel like — and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough,” he said. “I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
When the AP asked Carrey about his remarks on Wednesday, he answered by saying he may have been using hyperbole. And that’s probably accurate. I think he just really has fun with this character and enjoys being goofy and silly. It’s likely a vacation for him mentally. He doesn’t have to try so hard to be an amazing actor. He can be himself and just let go.
That wasn’t the first time Carrey hinted at retiring from Hollywood. In 2018, he expressed his disdain for the industry while speaking with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I didn’t like what was happening, the corporations taking over and all that,” he explained. “And maybe it’s because I felt pulled toward a different type of creative outlet and I really liked the control of painting — of not having a committee in the way telling me what the idea must be to appeal to a four-quadrant whatever.”

Here’s hoping Carrey just enjoys his life and stays out of political frays over the coming four years that President-elect Donald Trump is making our nation great again.
