There have been more than a few horrifically bad performances of the National Anthem during major sporting events over the years, but you’d be hard pressed to find a worse one than what Ingrid Andress, a four time Grammy nominee, gave on Monday night to kick off Major League Baseball’s All-Star Break Home Run Derby. It was so bad it almost made my ears bleed.
In fact, the overall consensus on social media was that the performance is going down in history as possibly the worst ever in sports history. In a cultural climate like ours where people are super divided over pretty much anything, Andress’ rendition of The Star Spangled Banner managed to bring people together.
“I’m not gonna bulls–t yall, I was drunk last night,” she went on to say in a post via X on Tuesday. “I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need.”

Andress, 32, went on to say that she was not herself during the performance. She also issued an apology to the MLB, the league’s fans and this country that she “loves so much.”
“I’ll let y’all know how rehab is hear it’s super fun,” she ended her post.
Reps for Andress did not immediately respond to Page Six’s requests for comment. Andress released the statement one day after she was ridiculed for the horrible rendition of the national anthem she delivered at the MLB Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, Monday night.
During the performance, the country singer struggled to hit notes as several players on the field, most notably Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm, could be seen attempting to hide their laughter.
To say that fans were displeased with Andress’ performance would be a massive understatement. Folks were livid. And they should be. The National Anthem represents our country. It’s not just some pop/country tune that might be a hit today and completely forgotten tomorrow. It should be treated with respect and sung properly with reverence.
“What in the world???? Dear lord that was painful!” wrote one X user.
“That Ingrid Andress national anthem might have been the worst thing to happen in America in the last 48 hours #brutal,” added another.
“I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” tweeted a third user.
Other fans compared Andress’ performance to that of Fergie’s at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game.
“I know Fergie is smiling today. After hearing Ingrid Andress sing the National Anthem. After seeing her performance, all I can think of is the episode of Bob’s Burgers with the Oil Spill song,” wrote an individual on X.

“Ingrid andress giving fergie a run for her money,” added yet another user on the platform.
In 2021, Andress received a Grammy nomination for the best new artist category, best country song for her hit single, “More Hearts Than Mine,” and for best country album for “Lady Like.”
Just two years later and she earned yet another Grammy nomination, this time for “Wishful Drinking,” a duet she recorded with fellow singer Sam Hunt.
