House Republicans have had just about enough of the shenanigans being carried out by Special Counsel Jack Smith, issuing a subpoena on Thursday that demands he provide information concerning the federal investigations into former President Donald Trump that are currently happening right now. It’s about time this is finally addressed. The radical left has been using the federal justice system as a weapon against Trump and have also unleashed the hounds of the FBI on Catholics and a number of pro-life activists. This needs to stop. Like yesterday.
Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from the state of Ohio, along with Arizona GOP Congressman Andy Biggs, sent out a letter to Smith that has a brand new set of requests for documentation and communications that are connected to the inquiry they described as being against the “chief opponent” of President Joe Biden in the upcoming presidential election.
Check out further details from the Daily Wire:
The letter claimed the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Smith have failed to “sufficiently” respond to prior information demands, and an accompanying statement released by the judiciary panel warned, “If the Department of Justice continues stonewalling the investigation, the Committee may be forced to resort [to the] compulsory process.”
Smith is leading two prosecutions against Trump: one is a 2020 election case in which the Supreme Court is now considering whether to take up the question of presidential immunity, and the other is a case over the former president’s handling of classified documents.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces in these cases and other legal matters that loom over his latest White House bid. He claims that politically motivated prosecutors are conducting a “witch hunt” against him.
Both Republican congressmen pointed out they have a fresh batch of brand new concerns that have popped up — anyone else suddenly having a craving for Pilsbury cinnamon rolls? — following revelations that surfaced involving Smith’s search warrant for documents that were connected to Trump’s Twitter account over the course of the last several weeks.
“To compound our existing concerns about the actions of our office, we recently learned that you had compelled from Twitter voluminous amounts of private information — including core political speech — of millions of Americans, without an apparent specialized nexus to criminal activity,” the lawmakers went on to say.
Their new set of demands aims to secure documents and communications related to discussions about the case against Trump between DOJ offices, salaries and expenses, hiring for the special counsel’s team, and the Twitter search warrant. A new deadline for this information and past requests was set on January 4.
More than a few Democrats on the radical side of the political spectrum have ripped into efforts made by the Republican Party to get information concerning Smith’s investigations into the former president, accusing members of the GOP of interfering with law enforcement activities. This, of course, is dead wrong.
No, what the GOP is trying to do is ensure that the federal law enforcement apparatus is not being weaponized to take down the president’s biggest political rival, ensuring Americans have a fair shot and opportunity to vote for the candidate that best represents their values and beliefs during next year’s election.
