It seems that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is absolutely determined to ruin as many classic film franchises as possible, after making the statement that the character of Helena Shaw could take over the “Indiana Jones” series in the future. First, she obliterated “Star Wars,” and now wants to do the same to the beloved character of Indiana Jones.
Hard pass.
Kennedy recently stated, according to TheBlaze, that it was “entirely possible” for Shaw to be the new main focus of the franchise with Harrison Ford being way too old to continue in the central role.
During an interview with Variety, Kennedy was asked whether Disney or Lucasfilm currently have any plans to see the franchise continue with actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge becoming the lead character. I’ve seen the trailer, guys. Waller-Bridge’s character is an insufferable feminist. I’d rather stick my head in a meat grinder while reciting Shakespeare than to watch the latest film installment, which features such a prominent role for Shaw. There’s absolutely no way I’d support a franchise with this character at the helm.
“It’s entirely possible” that it could happen, she went on to say during the interview. However, she added, “We’re not having any of those conversations right now. We’re just focused on finishing this with Harrison [Ford].”
“The new film in the series starring Harrison Ford, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,’ was already rumored to have Waller-Bridge’s character replace Ford’s at the end of the movie,” TheBlaze said. If this is true, fans are going to absolutely revolt against this film. One-hundred percent. Wokeness is a financial killer for films and for basically any product in any industry, which is something the Bud Light boycott has taught us well.
“In June 2021, a longtime movie insider and YouTuber with over 315,000 subscribers called Overlord DVD said that sources told him that there would be two endings considered for the movie. ‘In one of the rumored endings, young Indiana Jones dies alongside old Indiana Jones and Phoebe Waller-Bridge swoops in like a vulture, picks the hat up, and takes his place moving forward,’ he claimed,” the report said.

“The aforementioned YouTuber seemed to confirm his early reports in a May 2023 video and stated that an on-set leaker told him that filmmakers seemed to have cut any of the scenes that would have the female character taking over the lead role. Those scenes were allegedly replaced with her bringing Ford’s character back to life,” it continued.
Director James Mangold has stated that he’s “not interested” in whole idea of a new female lead for the franchise, which means if they do go forward with that idea, Mangold may not be back in the director’s chair. Then again, money talks and people listen.
“After iconic composer John Williams told an audience he had another ending of the film he still needed to compose for, Mangold responded to the rumors by saying Williams was ‘mistaken’ and that the lead character was never going to be replaced. After saying that Williams must have been ‘misinformed,’ Mangold later cryptically said that Williams was actually ‘fully informed,'” the report concluded.
