The estranged wife of “Yellowstone” actor Kevin Costner, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years on May 1, however, court documents have revealed that she is refusing to leave her home due to financial reasons. Well, I mean, if she was so worried about financial matters, maybe the filing for divorce was a bit hasty? I mean, none of us really know what kind of life the two built together or if things were getting really bad at home, but it seems like financial things should have been settled already.
“Radar Online accessed legal documents detailing the situation between the estranged couple. Costner and Baumgartner signed a prenuptial agreement when they wed in 2004, which Costner says included the stipulation that she vacate their shared property within 30 days of any divorce filing.,” the Daily Wire reported.
“Now that time period has passed, and Costner is taking legal action for a breach of contract. Costner and his lawyer Laura Wasser are now asking the court to issue an order prohibiting Christine from continuing to occupy the residence,” the report continued.
The court document allegedly states that Baumgartner is defiantly refusing to vacate house despite “multiple requests that she do so and despite Kevin’s offers to assist her financially in relocating to a new residence.”
Costner has alleged that his now estranged wife has “taken the position that she will not move out of Kevin’s separate property residence unless and until Kevin agrees to various financial demands.”
I didn’t realize that divorce was essentially hostage negotiations. This seems awfully brutal and bitter, doesn’t it? She’s making demands. Hardly sounds like an amicable split.
According to the “Yellowstone” actor, he’s already given Baumgartner a $1 million payment as was stated in their prenup agreement, along with an additional $200,000 during the early years of their marriage.

“The couple shares custody of their three children: Cayden, 15; Hayes, 14; and Grace, 12. The document Radar Online accessed said Costner had also arranged a ‘comprehensive temporary child support and fee proposal, he has agreed to and has maintained the financial status quo since the Petition was filed, continuing to pay all of the parties’ children’s expenses, and he is negotiating a summer visitation schedule for the parties’ three teenage children,'” the report added.
TMZ first reported that Costner’s wife, who works as a handbag designer, wasn’t seeking any sort of spousal support. Well, that was wrong, now wasn’t it?
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” a representative for Costner went on to tell the outlet right after news of the couple’s divorce filing broke.
“We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time,” the representative continued.
Relationships in Hollywood rarely last as long as Costner’s marriage to Baumgartner, which is honestly an accomplishment. However, it’s still sad to see people fall away from each other to such a degree. Splitting is never easy and emotions often cloud judgment.
Here’s to hoping the issues between the couple get solved peacefully.
