Hollywood stars are fleeing California like their collective hair is on fire. And why shouldn’t they? California, under Democrat leadership has turned into a liberal hellscape of crime, homelessness, and high taxes.
In the last couple of years, stars such as Mark Wahlberg, Joe Rogan, Scott Baio, and other have fled the Los Angeles area, and in most cases the state of California due to the feckless leadership of Gavin Newsom.
Now Josh Duhamel, the star of All My Children, Las Vegas and Transformers is taking it one step further. In an interview with Inverse.com, Duhamel talked about what he is doing, and where he is going if things go sideways:
“It started with one little cabin in the woods with no electricity and no water. We would go and we didn’t wanna stay for more than a day or two. You could tell the mice had overrun it. It was disgusting,”
When the property next door became available, the idea for a compound-like setting began to foment in his head. He continued:
“I bought it for like nothing; this beautiful little idyllic cabin on the water,” he said. “Suddenly I had 54 acres out there. So I had two cabins, one with no electricity or water. They both have wells and electricity now, but they’re both really small … We shaped the land. We created trails through it. I’m actually growing crops out there.”
“I’m learning how to hunt. I fish,” Duhamel says. His doomsday cabin even has Starlink internet and a custom water filtration system. “I’m building something so if things do go south, I have a place to take my family.”

The 50-year-old actor turned survivalist first planted clover and chicory to entice deer to feed on his land ostensibly so he can hunt and eat them if necessary. From there he moved on to corn and pumpkins, with plans for even more. He continued:
“It’s called a food plot. My idea is that I want to be able to hunt a deer. I’m not a hunter by any means, but I have this crazy fixation on what happens if sh*t hits the fan in LA and I have to take my family out there and live off the land,”
I have a tractor. I have a skid steer. I’m changing tires. I’m changing oil. I’m fixing things. I’m moving dirt, I’m popping rocks.
There’s this 2-mile road through the woods to get out there. When you see that lake, it’s like your blood pressure drops by 25 percent.

Crazy fixation, or simply being proactive? Why not have a backup plan if something bad happens? Most people would not be able to access cash, or even food if everything went off of the grid. The mass hysteria, and desperation would drive people to do desperate things, and Duhamel has no intention of being a part of the chaos.
While he may not be the first celeb to flee, he may be the first to “prep.”
“I’ve become a bit of a doomsday prepper, I guess. So I’m learning how to hunt. I have wells. We have water. We have fuel. I’m building something so if things do go south, I have a place to take my family. And I believe that we could live off the land out there. I’m not very good at it yet, but I’m getting there,” he added. “It keeps my lizard brain active.”
So, what led Duhamel down this road, besides seeing the obvious degradation in the quality of living in California?
“I read this book called Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse years ago, and it freaked me out a little bit.
And then there was a movie or book about these guys who had this little community where everybody had their own specialty. One was weapons, one was canning, one was construction, one was medical. And if you didn’t have something to bring to the group, you were out. I’m not saying I’m that crazy about it, but it is a comforting feeling knowing that I could survive out there.”
Duhamel is one of a growing number of celebrities and liberals to see what is going on around him. California isn’t safe, and he has a family to take care of. If things do go south as many think they will, Duhamel will be well prepared to ride out the storm in North Dakota with his family. He can hunt, he can fish, and he is stocked up, just in case. Most of us aren’t but we might be well advised to start working on our own compounds.
